Icicles No. 78 at a glance — here’s what you get

Icicles No. 78 is an anal plug made of solid, hand-blown glass from Pipedream. It has no motor, no battery, no app, and no charging cable. The entire product is a single piece of glass: a rounded, teardrop-shaped body that narrows toward a neck, and a wide base that’s ground into a faceted gemstone. The manufacturer’s specification is strikingly short, and that’s the most important observation in the entire review. Pipedream states the material (glass), color (black), and packaging type (box) — and then nothing more. Neither length, diameter, insertable length, nor weight is published by the manufacturer. All measurements circulating in Swedish shops are the shops’ own information, and they differ in a way that can be measured. We’ll get back to that.

This review is exclusively about the black variant with EAN 603912747522, the manufacturer’s item number 287800 under the model designation PD2878-00. The number is verified in three independent ways: Pipedream’s own product page publishes it as GTIN in the page’s structured data and as a barcode on the variant, Mshop lists it in its spec table, and Sexonic publishes it as EAN13. It’s the same item across all six Swedish shops that sell it. In Sweden, the price is between 249 and 399 SEK, and three of the six shops had it in stock at the price check on 12 September 2026.

What are Icicles — and what sets the series apart from regular glass plugs?

Icicles is Pipedreams line of hand-blown glass products, and the manufacturer uses the same description for the entire series: elegant, exclusive, and handmade with great attention to detail, where each individual glass rod is smooth, unique, and built for hard use. Pipedream also states that the glass is hypoallergenic, non-porous, and body-safe, and that the product is designed to last for a lifetime if it is cared for properly.

That word — unik — is more than just marketing for a hand-blown product, and it has a practical consequence that rarely gets spelled out. When glass is shaped by hand instead of in a mold, the finished product varies slightly between samples. That is also part of the explanation for why Swedish stores list different measurements for the same article number. What can be established is that a hand-blown product does not have the same measurement tolerances as a molded silicone plug, and that a manufacturer that does not publish any measurements at all also does not commit to any tolerance.

The numbering in the series is sequential and says nothing about size, shape, or price. No. 44, No. 46, No. 76, No. 77, No. 78, and No. 79 are six completely different products — not six sizes of the same one. It’s worth keeping that clear before comparing prices, because several Swedish shops list the entire series in the same category page under the same visual style.

No. 78, No. 77, or No. 44 — which Icicles is which?

Three models in the series sit close to each other and are easy to mix up. The difference between them can be determined from the manufacturer’s own pages, because each model has its own EAN.

In other words: there is no upgrade within the series—just different shapes. If you choose between the models, you choose based on appearance and on which shape suits you, not on performance—because in the technical sense there is no performance. It’s the same glass, the same care instructions, and the same one-year warranty on all of them.

Materials and build quality: solid hand-blown glass

The material question is the only property of an intimate product that can’t be compensated for with routine use or care, and it determines whether the product is still hygienic after five years. With Icicles No. 78, the answer is unusually simple: the entire product is glass. No silicone, no ABS plastic, no bonded seam, no seam between a head and a shaft, no electronics, and no battery. Pipedream lists a single material in its specifications, and it is glass.

What non-porous glass means in practice

Glass is non-porous. A non-porous surface can be cleaned, because there are no microscopic cavities where residue can get trapped. This is the single most important property of a material that is meant to sit against mucous membranes, and that is why the material declaration weighs more heavily than almost all other lines in a specification.

Silicone is also non-porous, and in that regard glass and body-friendly silicone are on equal footing. But glass has two properties that silicone doesn’t. Phthalates, plasticizers, and why glass avoids the whole issue

Phthalates are a group of plasticizers used to make plastic—above all flexible PVC—pliable. The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemikalieinspektionen) describes them as substances that can affect the endocrine system and make reproduction harder, and several of them are therefore restricted or banned within the EU in a large number of products. This specific product category is a recurring subject of supervision, because it contains flexible plastic against skin and mucous membranes.

Glass requires no softeners. It is not a polymer and does not become soft from additives — it is naturally hard and keeps its shape without any help. That’s why the whole question of phthalates, BPA, and latex is irrelevant for this product in a way it never is for a soft-plastic product. It’s also the reason why a glass plug is a reasonable choice for someone who has had a reaction to a previous product made from soft material and doesn’t know what caused it.

A nuance belongs here. Pipedream lists “glass,” but not what type of glass. Many competing glass products are explicitly marketed as borosilicate glass, which can handle temperature changes better than regular lime-soda glass. Pipedream does not publish any type of glass for Icicles No. 78, either on the product page or on the packaging. It’s a missing piece of information, and it’s not insignificant because the manufacturer simultaneously recommends both a microwave and a freezer. Measurements and weight: 9 cm total, 3 cm in diameter — and three different insertable lengths

Now it gets interesting, and this is the biggest finding in the entire walkthrough. The manufacturer publishes no measurements at all. That means that each figure below is a store claim, and the stores contradict one another.

• Mshop states that the total length is 9 cm, the diameter is 3 cm, and the insertable diameter is 3 cm.
• Intima states that the total length is 9 cm, the insertable length is 6 cm, and the diameter is 3 cm.
• Joyme states that the diameter is 3 cm and the insertable length is 7.3 cm.
• SexleksakerOutlet states the length is 7.3 cm and the diameter is 3 cm — without saying whether it’s the total length or the insertable length.

So, two things are unambiguous: the diameter is 3 centimeters according to all four stores, and the total length is 9 centimeters according to the two stores that specify a total length. The third measurement — how much of the 9 centimeters is actually inserted — varies from 6 cm at Intima to 7.3 cm at Joyme. That’s a difference of 1.3 centimeters, meaning over twenty percent of the insertable measurement, and for an anal product it’s exactly that measurement that determines whether the product fits. What can be established is that none of the figures comes from the manufacturer, and that anyone who needs an exact insertable measurement cannot get it from any published source. Expect 6 to 7 centimeters and treat 7.3 as a maximum value.

The same pattern applies to the weight. Joyme states 166 grams, which is about right for a solid glass body of this size. Mshop lists 0.23 kilos—but does so under the heading for packaging dimensions, along with the packaging dimensions 15 × 10 × 6.5 centimeters, which means that figure is most likely the shipping weight, including cardboard. Joyme, in turn, lists the packaging dimensions as 70 × 105 × 155 millimeters, i.e. 7 × 10.5 × 15.5 centimeters—close to Mshop’s information but not identical. Pipedream does not publish any weight at all for the item, and the weight field for the variant on the manufacturer’s own product page is blank.

Why does weight matter for a product without a motor? Because it’s the whole feel of it. A glass plug weighing 166 grams is about three times as heavy as a silicone plug of the same size, and that heaviness is the point—SexleksakerOutlet puts it as the glass giving the product good weight and a feeling of being properly filled out. That’s also why the base has to be wide: a heavy product without a clearly defined stop is a product that can drift.

How to use a glass plug without a motor

There are no buttons, no modes, and nothing to learn. The manufacturer’s entire user manual fits in two sentences: rinse the shaft under warm water to heat it up, or cool it under cold water for a cool feel, and use plenty of lubricant. What requires reflection, though, is the shape. Icicles No. 78 has a drop-shaped body that is widest a bit up from the widest point and tapers both toward the tip and toward the neck. Joyme repeats the same information in its product text and adds—wisely—that warm or cold water is the easier option when you want to have control over the temperature.

That advice is worth taking seriously, and there are two reasons. The first is that glass is a poor heat conductor across the surface but has high heat capacity: a massive glass body retains the temperature for a long time, which is the whole point, but it also means that the surface can be warmer than you think when you take it out. The second is that uneven heating creates stresses in glass, and stresses in glass are precisely what makes glass crack. A microwave oven heats unevenly by definition. Because Pipedream does not publish what type of glass the product is made of, it is not possible to assess how large temperature changes it can withstand, and that speaks in favor of the water bath.

Practically, this means that the method that works is a glass or bowl of warm tap water for a couple of minutes, or cold water with a few ice cubes. Always check the temperature with your wrist or the inside of your forearm before using the product—this is the same kind of check you do on baby bottles, and for the same reason. Mucous membranes tolerate less than fingertip skin, and a product that feels pleasantly warm in your hand can be too warm further in.

What is actually gained with temperature? Both Intima and Joyme state that the plug can be washed in a dishwasher, and Joyme also names Pipedream Toy Cleaner together with warm water.

Can Icicles No. 78 be washed in a dishwasher?

According to the stores, yes; according to the manufacturer, unknown. Pipedream does not mention the dishwasher anywhere—neither on the product page nor on the packaging. So the information about a dishwasher comes from Intima and Joyme, not from the manufacturer, and it should be read as a store statement.

Physically, it’s a reasonable claim: massive glass without electronics, without seams, and without soft parts is exactly the sort of object a dishwasher is made for. The same objection applies as with the microwave, though—a dishwasher combines high temperature with rapid cooling, and without a published type of glass, it’s not possible to say how well the product withstands that change. Hand washing in warm water with unperfumed soap or a cleaning agent intended for intimate products is the method that works regardless of glass type; it takes half a minute and requires no assumptions.

Otherwise, cleaning is the easiest in the entire product category. There is no chamber, no seam, no detachable head whose interior can collect residue, no charging contact to keep it dry, and no battery compartment. The entire product is one smooth surface, and you can see that it’s clean. It’s an underrated feature: with most products in this category, you have to trust that the cleaning worked, whereas with a glass plug you can check it.

Cracks, chips, and when the plug should be discarded

Glass has a failure mode that silicone doesn’t, and it deserves its own section. Joyme writes it out directly: check the product before use and don’t use it if the glass has developed cracks, chips, or other visible damage. That’s correct and should be followed.

The routine that works is simple and takes five seconds. Hold the product up to the light and twist it—a crack in the glass catches the light and shows up as a line. If you take care of it, it’s hard to see what could run out of the product, and that’s exactly what the manufacturer means when it says it’s built to last for a lifetime.

Water tightness: why the IP rating isn’t relevant here

Mshop lists the product as "100% watertight." The manufacturer does not publish an IP rating, and that’s exactly how it should be. Enclosure classes according to IEC 60529 describe how well a housing protects electrical equipment against penetrating water. Icicles No. 78 contains no electrical equipment and has no housing—it’s a solid glass object. There’s nothing to protect, and therefore there’s no rating to give.

Practical means that the product can be rinsed, bathed, dish-washed, and lowered into water without any care whatsoever regarding buttons or charging contacts, because there are none. It is a real advantage compared with a motorized plug, where water resistance is always a design feature that can break down over time — a seal that ages or a rubber cap that doesn’t close properly. Here, that feature can’t deteriorate.

So the store wording “100% waterproof” is not wrong, but it is also not a technical statement. It describes an obvious characteristic of the material, and it’s worth seeing the difference when you compare a glass plug to a product where the same words actually mean something that has been tested.

Icicles No. 78 compared with the alternatives

Three comparisons are relevant: against the two neighboring models in the same series, and against a silicone plug — i.e., against the material most people choose instead. Against Icicles No. 77 — same glass, same warranty, different shape

Icicles No. 77 is the neighboring model in the numbering and the closest comparison that exists. The manufacturer’s page for No. 77 states exactly the same as the page for No. 78: glass material, black color, packaging type box, and a one-year warranty. EAN is 603912747515 instead of 603912747522, and the two models share verbatim the same product description.

So what separates them? The shape — and nothing else that can be substantiated. Pipedream also does not publish measurements for No. 77, which means the two models can’t be compared dimension for dimension based on the manufacturer’s own information. It’s better information than it sounds: it means that the person choosing between them should choose based on the picture and the shape, not on a spec, and that a shop text claiming that one is “bigger” isn’t backed up by the manufacturer.

Against Icicles No. 44 — 30 SEK cheaper in clear glass

Icicles No. 44 is the cheapest model in the series at Blush Me: 219 SEK versus 249 SEK for No. 78. It has EAN 603912337280 and, according to the manufacturer, is clear glass instead of black, but otherwise identical on every published point — same material, same packaging type, same user manual, same one-year warranty, and the same lack of measurements.

So you’re paying for the 30 kronor for the color and the shape—nothing else. Clear glass has a practical property that black lacks and that is rarely mentioned: dirt and residue show on clear glass. Black glass is prettier in the packaging but less self-controlled when it comes to cleaning. On the other hand, black glass is significantly more discreet in a necessär, and the faceted base on No. 78 shows like jewelry rather than like a sex toy. Which one weighs more is a matter of taste—but it’s worth knowing that the price difference doesn’t correspond to any difference in quality.

The same shop also lists Icicles No.46 at 239 SEK, Icicles No.79 at 259 SEK, and Icicles No.76 at 299 SEK. The entire series therefore falls within an 80 SEK range at one and the same shop, which confirms the picture: you choose the shape, not the class.

Against a silicone plug—the real choice

The most useful comparison isn’t to another Icicles but to the material most people choose instead. In the same price range, Blush Me lists, among other things, the Gildo Clear Glass Buttplug for 219 SEK with the dimensions 10 cm and Ø 3.9 cm given in the product name, the Satisfyer Sparkling Crystal Glass Anal Plug for 259 SEK, and the NS Novelties Crystal Desires Red Heart S for 179 SEK—all of them in glass. The fact that three competitors in the same shop state their dimensions in the name while Pipedream doesn’t publish any at all is, in itself, a result.

Against silicone, the trade-off looks like this. Silicone gives way; glass doesn’t—the same nominal diameter feels bigger in glass. Silicone is warmed by the body in a few seconds; glass retains the temperature you give it. Silicone can’t handle silicone-based lubricants; glass can handle all. Silicone weighs a little; glass weighs 166 grams according to Joyme, and that’s part of the point. Silicone ages and can become sticky or porous; glass doesn’t do that, but it can crack.

The conclusion is that the materials aren’t better or worse than each other, just different. If you’re new to anal products, silicone is the forgiving choice. If you already know you can tolerate a firm product and you want weight, temperature, and a material that can’t break down, then glass is the only material that gives you all four at the same time.

Price picture: 249 to 399 SEK and three shops with stock

Six Swedish shops sell the item with EAN 603912747522. The cheapest are Blush Me and SexleksakerOutlet at 249 SEK each; the most expensive are Mshop and Intima at 399 SEK each. That’s a 150 SEK difference, or 60 percent, for exactly the same article number, the same color, and the same packaging.

The inventory situation is at least as important as the spread in price here. Only three of the six stores had the product in stock at the price check on September 12, 2026: Joyme at 289 SEK, and Mshop and Intima at 399 SEK each. Both stores that list 249 SEK had it sold out, as did Sexonic at 303 SEK. That means the actual price difference between the cheapest and most expensive available store is 110 SEK or 38 percent, not 60. Stores that list a product as sold out may still have an old price in the feed, and that price is rarely what you end up paying when the item comes in again.

The price spread doesn’t depend on any store selling a different variant. All six stores list the item under the same EAN, or under their own article number tied to that specific black No. 78 — Mshop 580754, Intima 16154, Joyme D-230646, Blush Me and SexleksakerOutlet 1084 and Sexonic 126966602. So it’s simply the stores’ own margin setting on an item that Pipedream itself lists on its US site with a regular price of 41.99 US-dollar.

Who is Icicles No. 78 for — and who isn’t it for?

It’s for you if you want a material that can’t be broken down, can’t become porous, and doesn’t require any softeners. It’s for you if you want to be able to use any lube you like, including silicone-based, without having to worry about the product being damaged. It’s for you if you want temperature as a variable, for someone who prefers weight over flexibility, and if you’re tired of charging things — there’s no charging cable, no battery that degrades, and no app that stops getting updates. Cleaning is also the easiest in the category, because the entire product is one smooth, controllable surface.

It’s not for you if you’re a beginner and want a forgiving material — 3 centimeters in glass is harder than 3 centimeters in silicone, and a glass product doesn’t adapt. It’s not for you if you want vibration; there’s no motor and no way to add one. It’s not for you if you need to know the exact insertable length before buying, because the manufacturer doesn’t publish any measurement and the stores list everything between 6 and 7.3 centimeters. And it’s not for you if you want to be able to drop the product into a tiled bathroom without consequences.

One more thing belongs in the decision. Anyone who chooses glass also rules out the possibility of being careless. The routine of shining light through the product and feeling over the base before each use is not burdensome, but it is mandatory, and it isn’t found on a silicone product. If you’re willing to do that, glass is the material that lasts the longest of all in the category. If you’re not, you should buy silicone.

Warranty, complaints, and the right of withdrawal

Pipedream offers a one-year warranty on all products that are neither rechargeable nor vibrate, and Icicles No. 78 is both. The warranty period runs from the date of purchase and covers mechanical defects or manufacturing defects. It’s short compared with what other manufacturers in adjacent categories offer, but it’s also a product without moving parts—what realistically could be wrong from the start is a crack, a chip, or an incompletely sanded edge, and you can tell immediately.
