Womanizer models explained: which one should you choose?

Womanizer's range includes many models, and most are built on the same technology – Pleasure Air, pressure waves in a chamber placed over the clitoris. The differences between the models lie in how much can be adjusted, how long the battery lasts, what the casing is made of and whether there's anything beyond air pulse.

Premium 2 if you want the most balanced model. Next if you want to be able to set the depth of the pressure waves. Pro if you want simple buttons and a long run time. Liberty 2 if it's coming with you on trips. Starlet 3 if you just want to try the technology in the smallest possible format. Duo 2 or Blend if you want air pulse and G-spot vibration at the same time, and OG if you want the air pulse directed at the G-spot. Enhance for air pulse and vibration on the clitoris, Vibe if you'd rather have an ordinary vibrator, and Wave if you want something for the shower.

Below we go through what the models have in common, what the features mean and how the models differ, group by group.

Womanizer gives a five-year manufacturer's warranty on all its products, counted as 60 months from delivery. Stimulation heads count as wear parts and charging cables as accessories, and both are excluded. Womanizer states on its warranty page that the products are made from body-safe materials free from phthalates, BPA and latex.

All the battery-powered models we've reviewed charge with a magnetic, product-specific cable, and all are rated IPX7. None of them has app control. The manuals specify water-based lube, a temperature limit of 45 °C and a warning that the magnets can affect pacemakers and magnetic strips. Several manuals also state explicitly that the product isn't designed for anal use.

Womanizer publishes no measured noise level in decibels for its models, and battery capacity in mAh only for a few: 500 mAh for the Pro, 160 mAh for the Liberty 2 and Blend, and 620 mAh for the Enhance.

Womanizer's model names say little, but the feature names keep coming back. This is how the manufacturer describes them.

Smart Silence means the product only starts when it makes skin contact. It's found on the Premium 2, Next, Duo 2 and OG. On the Next, the product also goes into sleep mode after 30 minutes.

Autopilot runs preset programmes that vary the intensity automatically. The Premium 2 and Next have three such modes within different intensity ranges. The Vibe has three autopilot modes called Melody, Harmony and Orchestral.

Afterglow lets the stimulation fade out instead of stopping abruptly. It's found on the Next, OG and Duo 2, among others, where Womanizer states that the product drops back to intensity level 3.

Climax Control is Womanizer's name for depth adjustment of the pressure waves and is only found on the models with 3D Pleasure Air, such as the Next. Three depth levels times fourteen intensity levels gives 42 combinations.

Three models are designed to be simple. They have an ABS plastic casing with silicone in the stimulation head, two buttons and no Autopilot or Smart Silence.

Starlet 3 is the smallest in the range: 117 × 46 × 47 mm and 80 g, with six intensity levels. It charges fully in 30 minutes but also only lasts 30 minutes, which is eight times shorter than the Premium 2. It's a way to try Pleasure Air in a small format, but the short run time makes it less suitable as your only toy.

Womanizer Pro has eleven intensity levels on a rocker and a control button, and the same run time as the most expensive models: 240 minutes on 120 minutes of charging, with a 500 mAh battery. It measures 160 × 50 × 59 mm and weighs 178.1 g, so it's thicker and heavier than the Premium 2. A single head is included, and the Pro isn't on the list of models the replaceable heads fit. It's sold in five colours, including Vibrant Pink and Sage. Womanizer also sells a separate model called the Pro40, so check the name carefully.

Liberty 2 is the travel model: 105 × 50 × 40 mm and 90 g, with a magnetic cap that covers the chamber and a travel lock that disables the buttons. It has eight intensity levels, 120 minutes of run time and 60 minutes of charging time. The head can't be removed or replaced. More advice on packing toys in travelling with sex toys.

Womanizer also sells the Classic 2, which according to the manufacturer has ten intensity levels, 180 minutes of run time, an extra stimulation head in the box and Afterglow. It sits between the Pro and the Premium 2 but isn't part of our reviews.

The Premium 2 and Next are the two models with all-silicone, fourteen intensity levels, Autopilot, Smart Silence and two head sizes in the box. Both state 240 minutes of run time and 120 minutes of charging time.

Premium 2 is the more compact of the two: 155 × 50 × 35 mm and 141.4 g. It has body-safe silicone in both the body and the head, heads in S and M, three Autopilot programmes and Smart Silence. It comes in several colours, including black with gold trim and red with gold. What it lacks is depth adjustment – that's only on the Next.

Next has everything the Premium 2 has, plus Climax Control with three depth levels, giving 42 combinations. It also has Afterglow. The Next is the largest of the clitoris-only models, 171 × 54 × 57 mm, and Womanizer gives the weight as 480 g without specifying whether that refers to the product or the whole package. It comes in five colours, including dark purple.

Choose the Premium 2 if you want a proven model in a smaller format. Choose the Next if you know you want to be able to fine-tune and don't mind a larger product in your hand.

Three models have a part that is inserted to stimulate the G-spot. They differ in how.

Duo 2 has an air pulse head for the clitoris and a vibrating arm, two motors controlled separately, fourteen air pulse levels and ten vibration patterns. Heads in S and M are included. It states 120 minutes of run time, measures 88 × 203 × 58 mm and weighs 263 g. Womanizer also sells the Next Duo, which according to the manufacturer adds Climax Control and all-silicone.

Blend has the same idea in a lighter format: 185 g, eight air pulse levels and six vibration modes on two motors with their own controls. The head can be removed for cleaning, but no extra size is listed. The run time is 90 minutes.

OG does something different: it directs Pleasure Air inwards, towards the G-spot, instead of at the clitoris. It has twelve air pulse levels and three vibration levels controlled independently, a flexible arm, all-silicone and 152 g. The run time is 120 minutes, and the head can neither be removed nor replaced. More on the G-spot in finding the G-spot.

Enhance is the only one of Womanizer's clitoris-only air pulse models with a separate vibration motor. It has ten air pulse levels, ten vibration levels and ten vibration patterns, a 620 mAh battery and 120 minutes of run time. It lacks Smart Silence and Autopilot, and Womanizer doesn't sell a replacement head for it.

Vibe is Womanizer's first pure vibrator, with no air pulse. It's placed against the body, has ten intensity levels and three autopilot modes, and the shape – which Womanizer calls Pleasure Edges – has a broad side and a pointed tip. The run time is 90 minutes. It suits anyone who doesn't get on with air pulse but wants the same warranty.

Wave is a shower head for water massage, made by hansgrohe according to the manual. It has no battery, three spray patterns and a stepless control, but requires a hand shower with a hose and a flow pressure of at least 0.9 bar. More on toys in water in waterproof sex toys.

Run time according to Womanizer: Premium 2, Next and Pro 240 minutes. Liberty 2, Duo 2, OG and Enhance 120 minutes. Blend and Vibe 90 minutes. Starlet 3 30 minutes.

Air pulse intensity levels: Premium 2, Next and Duo 2 fourteen. OG twelve. Pro eleven. Enhance ten. Liberty 2 and Blend eight. Starlet 3 six.

Heads in S and M in the box: Premium 2, Next and Duo 2. All-silicone throughout the product: Premium 2, Next and OG.

Vibration motor: Duo 2, Blend, OG and Enhance, plus Vibe, which only vibrates.

First air pulse toy: the Premium 2 if you want the option to change head size, the Pro if you'd rather have simple buttons. Both last 240 minutes.

You already know you like air pulse and want more control: the Next.

You travel a lot: the Liberty 2, with a cap and travel lock.

You want the clitoris and G-spot at the same time: the Duo 2 for the most settings, the Blend for lower weight. If you want the air pulse inside: the OG.

You're unsure about air pulse: the Enhance gives both air pulse and vibration, and the Vibe is an ordinary vibrator.

Buying based on the number of intensity levels. More levels give finer adjustment, not necessarily more power. The fit matters more.

Ordering the wrong heads. The type A heads only fit the models Womanizer lists, and the Pro, Liberty 2 and Enhance aren't among them.
