Choose a G-spot vibrator if you mainly want internal stimulation, want to control angle and pressure freely or want to combine it with your own hand or a partner. Choose a rabbit vibrator if you want internal and clitoral stimulation at the same time in a single toy – but only if the arm reaches the clitoris on your body.
Both are vibrators inserted into the vagina with a curved tip meant to rest against the front wall, where the G-spot area is. The difference is the outer arm. A rabbit vibrator has an extra arm that rests against the clitoris, often with its own motor. A G-spot vibrator has none – it does one thing, and leaves the clitoris to you.
That makes the choice fairly easy to put into words: do you want everything in one toy, or do you want freedom? A rabbit gives dual stimulation without you needing a second hand, but it relies on the arm fitting your anatomy and it locks the angle. A G-spot vibrator is freer to move, easier to combine with other things and usually simpler to use with a partner – but you have to take care of the clitoris yourself.
Below we go through the differences point by point, who tends to get on with which, and what in-between types there are. Stimulation. The G-spot vibrator gives internal stimulation, focused on the front wall. The rabbit gives internal and external stimulation at the same time. For many people the clitoris is what leads to orgasm, and then the question is whether you want the toy or yourself to take care of it.
Fit. A G-spot vibrator only has to fit internally. A rabbit has to fit in two places at once: the shaft internally and the arm against the clitoris. The distance between the vaginal opening and the clitoris varies between people, so a rabbit that's perfect for one person can be unusable for another.
Freedom of movement. A G-spot vibrator can be moved in and out, angled and turned freely. A rabbit can be moved too, but then the arm easily loses contact with the clitoris; most people hold it fairly still and rock it gently.
Controls. A simple G-spot vibrator has one motor. Rabbits often have two, and ideally they can be controlled separately. But there are G-spot vibrators with two motors too – We-Vibe Rave 2 has one motor towards the G-spot area and one towards the vaginal opening, controlled independently of each other.
Size and weight. Rabbits are bigger and heavier because they have an extra arm. Womanizer gives 185 grams for the rabbit-style Blend and Fun Factory 230 grams for Miss Bi, while LELO gives 93 grams for the G-spot vibrator Liv 3.
… you mainly want to explore internal stimulation. Without an arm that has to land in the right place, you can concentrate on angle, depth and pressure against the front wall.
… you already know what you like on the clitoris. Perhaps you use your fingers, a bullet or an air pulse stimulator. Then it's often better to combine two toys than to buy a rabbit where the clitoral part is a compromise. See bullet vibrator: what is it for and clitoral stimulator or air pulse toy.
… you'll be using it with a partner. A slim G-spot vibrator is easier to use during foreplay and takes up less space than a rabbit with a protruding arm.
… you've tried a rabbit and the arm didn't reach. It's one of the most common reasons people switch.
… you want to be able to control the angle. Rave 2 has a bendable body that can be angled to suit your body, which makes the fit less of a lottery.
… you want dual stimulation with one hand. That's the whole point of a rabbit: one toy, two places, and your other hand free.
… you like internal stimulation but rarely come from it alone. The combination is what makes the difference for many people.
… you want one toy to use on your own, without having to juggle two.
… you can choose a model that deals with the fit. What matters is whether the arm reaches. We-Vibe has built Nova 2 with a flexible outer arm designed to keep contact with the clitoris, and Satisfyer states a flexible shaft for Mono Flex. A flexible design increases the chance of the arm landing in the right place, but doesn't guarantee it.
… you want to be able to control the motors separately. That lets you use just the arm for a while, just the shaft for a while, or both. Nova 2 and Mono Flex have two separately controllable motors. With Fun Factory's Miss Bi two separately controlled motors are marketed, but the manual shows a single shared control.
The only way to know if a rabbit fits is to try it, and that's why many people start with a G-spot vibrator. But a few things can reduce the risk:
Look for insertion dimensions. Manufacturers don't always publish the length and diameter of the insertable part. LELO states 100 millimetres of insertable length for Liv 3; for Nova 2 and Miss Bi the manufacturers don't publish the insertion dimensions. When the dimensions are missing, you know less about where the arm will end up. More on dimensions in what size dildo – the same reasoning applies to vibrators.
Choose flexible over rigid if you're unsure. An arm or shaft that gives adapts more easily.
Think about your own experience. If you know that fingers or a dildo feel best fairly shallow, and you roughly know where the clitoris is in relation to that, you can judge a rabbit's shape better.
Two motors need more power than one, and it shows in the run times. Satisfyer states about 60 minutes for Mono Flex and Fun Factory about 40 minutes for Miss Bi. We-Vibe states up to 120 minutes for Nova 2, the same as for the G-spot vibrator Rave 2. LELO states up to two hours for Liv 3.
The charging connector differs too. Nova 2, Rave 2 and Mono Flex charge with a magnetic, product-specific cable. Liv 3 has a product-specific lead with a round connector. Miss Bi charges with standard USB-C, but the cable isn't included. Fun Factory Mr. Boss doesn't charge at all but runs on two AAA batteries. Waterproofing is the same in most of the models here: IPX7 according to the manufacturer. One exception is Liv 3, where LELO writes “100 % waterproof” without giving any IP rating. More on IP ratings in waterproof sex toys.
The line between G-spot vibrators and rabbits isn't sharp. Several toys take something from both or swap vibration for a different technology.
Air pulse on the clitoris. Womanizer Blend is a rabbit where the clitoral arm uses air pulses instead of vibration, with eight air pulse levels and six vibration modes in the shaft. Air pulse requires the opening to seal closely over the clitoris, and for Blend Womanizer lists no extra head size.
Air pulse on the G-spot. Womanizer OG is a G-spot vibrator where the air pulses are directed inwards, with twelve intensity levels and three vibration levels controlled independently of each other. No clitoral arm.
Thrusting. A pulsator such as Fun Factory Bi Stronic Arc has a shaft that moves back and forth and a clitoral arm that vibrates, with two separately controlled motors. Read more in the thrusting vibrator guide.
Rolling ball. Satisfyer Rrrolling Explosion is a G-spot vibrator with a ball under the silicone surface that rolls up and down, controlled separately from the vibration: twelve programmes times seven rolling speeds.
Both work for foreplay. A partner can use a G-spot vibrator internally while stimulating the clitoris with their mouth or hand, which many find more engaging than a rabbit that handles everything. A rabbit, on the other hand, can give the receiver full stimulation while the partner does something else.
App control can turn both G-spot vibrators and rabbits into couples' toys. Rave 2, Liv 3, Nova 2 and Mono Flex can be controlled by app, which lets a partner take control from a distance. More on that in remote-controlled sex toys and which sex toy is best for couples.
Choosing a rabbit because it “does more”. More features are only better if it fits. A G-spot vibrator that sits right gives more than a rabbit whose arm lands in the wrong place.
Looking at the total length. A large part of the length is handle. The length and diameter of the insertable part are what matter, and they're not always published.
Overlooking run time. Two motors use more power, and several rabbits last less long than an ordinary G-spot vibrator.
Using it anally without the manufacturer allowing it. We-Vibe writes that Rave 2 is not designed for anal use, and Womanizer says the same about Blend and OG. Fun Factory, on the other hand, labels Miss Bi anal-safe thanks to the LOOP handle. A toy without a stop or wide base must never be used anally.
Using silicone lube. All the models here have silicone against the body. Use water-based lube; more in which lube to choose.
