The Lovense models: which Lovense suits you?

Lovense builds almost its entire range around app control. Every model connects to the Lovense Remote app, which can control the toy in the same room or at a distance over the internet. That is why it is rarely the app that decides which Lovense model you should choose, but the shape – in other words, where and how the toy will be used.

If you want something that is worn inside and controlled by someone else, the Lush range is the main route, with Lush 3, Lush 4 and Lush Mini, and Vulse if you want thrusting instead of just vibration. If you want something that sits on the outside, there is Ferri, a panty vibrator with a magnetic clip. For anal play there is the Hush 2 butt plug and the Edge 2 prostate massager. Domi 2 is a compact wand vibrator, Lapis a strapless strap-on, and Gush 2, Max 2 and Solace Pro are made for the penis.

Below we go through what the Lovense models have in common, where they differ and which one suits whom – with figures from Lovense's product pages and manuals as reported in our reviews.

The app is the core. According to the manufacturer, Lovense Remote offers unlimited patterns, custom patterns, long-distance control and features that let music or sound control the vibration. Without a phone many models become considerably simpler: Lush 3 then has one button and four preset patterns, Ferri three intensity levels, and Edge 2 can only control its two motors separately via the app.

Charging is done in most cases with a magnetic cable. It is Lovense-specific, so an ordinary USB-C cable will not work, but according to our reviews the same cable is shared by around thirty Lovense models. The exceptions are Solace Pro, which charges with ordinary USB-C, and Domi 2, which has its own pin connector.

The warranty is one year according to Lovense's terms, and according to the same terms it is tied to the first buyer. Lovense also markets a ten-year quality guarantee, but according to the terms it only applies to purchases made directly from Lovense. For the Max 2 and Solace Pro masturbators, the replaceable TPE sleeve is also covered by only a 90-day warranty.

One thing Lovense does better than many competitors is publish noise levels for several models: 36 dB as the lowest level for Lush Mini, 38–43 dB for Lush 3, 41 dB as the lowest level for Hush 2 and 43 dB for Edge 2. Feel free to compare with other brands in quiet vibrators.

Most Lovense toys worn on or in the body are IPX7 and can be submerged: Lush 3, Lush Mini, Ferri, Vulse, Hush 2, Edge 2, Lapis and Gush 2. Domi 2 and Max 2 are IPX6 and withstand jets of water but not submersion, and Solace Pro is only IPX4 – the main body must not get wet and only the sleeve is washed.

Lush is Lovense's vibrating egg: an insertable part that goes in vaginally and a curved tail that stays outside the body, keeps the egg in place and carries the Bluetooth antenna. The shape makes the toy hands-free and is therefore the most common Lovense model for long-distance control.

Lovense Lush 3 has a fully silicone-covered body according to the manufacturer, weighs 75 grams and is IPX7. Run time is up to 220 minutes on 80 minutes of charging, and Lovense gives a range of up to 75 metres outdoors. The weakness is the specification: Lovense publishes no dimensions and no battery capacity, and without a phone you are left with one button and four preset patterns. No remote is included.

Lovense Lush 4 is the latest generation. According to Lovense's own developer documentation it has twenty intensity levels, where many competitors stop at ten, and the battery level can be read exactly in the app. There is one important reservation here: the manufacturer's product page and manual could not be verified when we examined the model, so the dimensions, run time and charging time in our review are retailer information – and the retailers do not agree with each other. Lovense Lush Mini is the smallest model in the range: a 31 millimetre insertable diameter and 58 grams, compared with 75 grams for Lush 3. It charges in 40 minutes, and according to Lovense seven minutes of charging gives an hour of run time. Run time is given as between 63 and 236 minutes depending on intensity, and range as up to 93 metres outdoors. It is IPX7 and has an LED tail.

If you are new to vibrating eggs, Lush Mini is the easiest to start with thanks to its size. If you want a long run time on one charge and a fully documented specification, Lush 3 is the safer bet. More wearable models, including from other brands, are in the guide to panty vibrators.

Lovense Ferri is a panty vibrator that sits on the outside of the body and is attached with a magnetic clip on the outside of the garment, so the contact point can be placed freely. It measures 74.5 × 27 × 21 millimetres and weighs 35 grams, has 195 minutes of run time on 60 minutes of charging and 100 hours of standby time. It is IPX7. Without the app it has three intensity levels and seven patterns, and neither a remote nor a storage pouch is included. The magnetic clip is a loose part that can get lost, and since the product contains permanent magnets it should not be placed directly over a pacemaker.

Lovense Vulse is an egg that thrusts instead of just vibrating: a 10 millimetre stroke at up to 120 strokes per minute, in 100 per cent silicone and 82 grams. It is IPX7 and charges in 60 minutes, but the run time is up to 1.08 hours – roughly one hour. Lovense Hush 2 is an app-controlled butt plug in 100 per cent silicone. It comes in four sizes – 25, 38, 45 and 57 millimetres – with the same technology, and in the 45 mm size the maximum diameter is 44 millimetres and the insertable depth 113 millimetres. It is IPX7, has up to 275 minutes of run time and a flared, three-legged base. Lovense Edge 2 is a prostate massager with two motors, one for the prostate and one for the perineum, and a bendable neck that holds its position. The insertable part is 91 millimetres with a 35 millimetre maximum diameter, the weight 151.3 grams and the run time 65 to 130 minutes depending on the level. It is IPX7 and Lovense publishes a noise level of 43 dB. The two motors can only be controlled separately via the app.

Lovense Domi 2 is a compact wand vibrator at 233.88 millimetres and 299.9 grams with up to 370 minutes of run time – the longest of the wands we have compared. It has seven preset modes and can store ten custom patterns in the product, so they work without a phone. It is IPX6, meaning it can be rinsed but not submerged, and charging takes 150–160 minutes. Lovense Lapis is a strap-on without a harness: one part is inserted into the wearer and the other is used on the partner, and the stimulation goes both ways at the same time. It has three motors, seven patterns on the button and full app control. The total length is 230 millimetres, with 138 millimetres insertable in the outer arm and 87 millimetres in the bulb part. It is IPX7, but the run time is 58 minutes on the highest setting against a charging time of 105 minutes. Lovense Gush 2 is a glans massager in food-grade silicone that combines vibration with oscillation aimed at the frenulum, 4,300 movements per minute according to the manufacturer. It has an open design without a closed tunnel and two straps that make it hands-free for a girth of 89–165 millimetres. It is IPX7 and charges in 75 minutes, but the run time is 70–110 minutes and Lovense publishes no dimensions.

Lovense Max 2 is a masturbator with an air pump for contractions around the whole sleeve and vibration on its own button. Via the app's Toy Sync, its movements can control a Nora, a Calor or another Max 2. The sleeve is TPE and, according to the manufacturer, must not be washed with soap, only warm water, and the product is IPX6. It weighs 750 grams.

Lovense Solace Pro is an automatic thrusting machine with 300 strokes per minute and a stroke length of up to 79 millimetres, adjustable in steps of 0.65 millimetres. It has up to 14 hours of run time, charges with ordinary USB-C and comes with a table mount for completely hands-free use. Eight speed levels and four depth levels are available directly on the product. The downside is that it is only IPX4, that the main body must not get wet and that it weighs 1.2 kilos. In the same room, the Lovense toy connects directly to the phone via Bluetooth. At a distance, the toy connects to the wearer's own phone, and the partner controls it via Lovense Remote over the internet. So both need the app, and the person wearing the toy needs to have their phone nearby. The range Lovense states, for example up to 93 metres outdoors for Lush Mini, is the distance between toy and phone, not between the partners.

That makes Lovense particularly useful for couples who live in different places. The most common mistake is choosing a model by the app rather than by the shape. All Lovense toys use the same app, so it tells you nothing about whether a model suits your body. Start with what you want to do and choose the shape accordingly.

The second is the lube. Use water-based lube: silicone-based lube breaks down silicone surfaces and makes them porous, and oil-based products such as coconut oil leave a film that is hard to remove and break down latex condoms. The third is heat and water. No Lovense toy should be boiled or put in the dishwasher, since they have built-in batteries, and the models rated IPX6 or IPX4 should not be submerged. For a first app-controlled egg, Lush Mini is the easiest to start with, and Lush 3 the best-documented choice if you want a long run time. If you want something that is not inserted at all, Ferri is the right model. For anal play, Hush 2 in the right size is a safe choice, and for the prostate Edge 2. For the penis, Gush 2 is the easiest to keep clean, while Solace Pro offers the most mechanics for those who accept the size and the low water rating.
