We-Vibe models explained: which We-Vibe is right for you?

We-Vibe is best known for couples' vibrators, but most We-Vibe models are actually vibrators for one person. The easiest way to understand the range is to divide it by how the product is used, not by name.

The first group is the couples' vibrators: Sync O, Sync Go, Sync Lite and Chorus Pro. They have an inner and an outer part and are worn during vaginal sex, so that both partners get vibration at the same time. The second group is vibrators for solo use or foreplay: the rabbit vibrator Nova 2, the G-spot vibrator Rave 2, the wand vibrator Wand 2, the small Tango X and Touch X, and Temp, which can get both warm and cool. The third group is the air pulse models Melt and Melt 2, which stimulate the clitoris with pressure waves instead of vibration.

On top of that there's the prostate massager Vector+ and the discontinued cock ring Verge. Below we go through each group, what the models have in common and where they differ – with figures from We-Vibe's own product pages and manuals, as presented in our reviews.

Almost all the We-Vibe models we've reviewed are built on the same foundation. The material against the body is body-safe silicone that the manufacturer says is free from phthalates, BPA and latex, in some cases combined with ABS plastic in the handle. The manufacturer gives a temperature limit of 45 degrees for the product and battery, which means no We-Vibe should be boiled or put in the dishwasher – not even those that can be submerged in water.

Charging is almost always done with a magnetic cable that only fits We-Vibe. It gives a sealed body with no opening where water can get in, but it also means a standard USB-C cable won't work if the original cable goes missing. According to We-Vibe's warranty terms, charging cables and batteries are also excluded from the warranty.

The warranty is two years, counted from delivery but no more than two years after manufacture, and according to the terms it's provided by WOW Tech Europe GmbH. That's shorter than with some competitors, and it's worth knowing if the product has been sitting in stock for a long time before it's sold.

Most of the newer We-Vibe models can be controlled with the We-Vibe app via Bluetooth. According to We-Vibe, the app has twelve preset vibration patterns, the option to create your own, a Touch Mode where finger movements on the screen control the intensity, and playlists where you decide the order and length. It can also be used long-distance, so a partner in another city can control the toy via the internet.

How much you need the app depends on the model. Sync Go has only one button on the product itself, so in practice the intensity is adjusted from the phone. Nova 2 and Rave 2 have full sets of buttons and work well without a phone. Tango X, Touch X and Temp have no app at all. A parvibrator has an inner arm that is inserted vaginally and an outer part that rests against the clitoris. The penetrating partner fits alongside the inner arm, and the vibration reaches both. We-Vibe has several such models, and the differences between them come down to four things: shape, control, run time and water resistance.

We-Vibe Sync O differs from the others in that the inner arm is a closed loop instead of a C-bend. According to the manufacturer, it anchors itself without needing to clamp, which is the most common objection to the C-shape. It also has the longest run time of We-Vibe's couples' vibrators: 150 minutes on a 3.7-volt, 240 mAh battery.

A remote comes in the box and is paired at the factory, and the product can also be controlled via the app – but only with one of them at a time. The toy itself is IPX7 and can be submerged, whereas the remote isn't waterproof and according to the manual should only be wiped clean. The product has only one button, so the intensity is adjusted with the remote or the app.

We-Vibe Sync Go is the smallest of We-Vibe's C-shapes, 77.4 × 29.7 × 45.2 millimetres, in all-silicone and with a hard travel case in the box. It's IPX7 and has 90 minutes of run time. No remote is included, and since the product has a single button, the intensity is handled in the app. The product page names nine vibration modes while the manual gives ten.

We-Vibe Sync Lite is the simplest version. It has ten pattern modes on the button and app control, but only up to 45 minutes of run time and no published IP rating. The manual explicitly advises against submerging it in water. For anyone who wants a C-shape that can handle the shower, Sync Go is therefore the safer choice of the two.

We-Vibe also sells the Sync 2, which according to the manufacturer's product page is the larger C-shape with 120 minutes of run time. We haven't reviewed it separately.

We-Vibe Chorus Pro is We-Vibe's best-equipped couples' vibrator. It has three motors – two in the outer arm for the clitoris and one for the G-spot – ten vibration patterns, three of which We-Vibe calls Fusion Wave, and ten intensity levels. The remote is controlled by squeezing it and vibrates in time with the toy, so whoever holds it feels the same intensity.

The run time is up to 120 minutes on 90 minutes of charging, and charging happens in a case that also serves as storage for the toy and remote. The downside is the documentation: We-Vibe publishes neither dimensions, weight, battery capacity nor an IP rating for the Chorus Pro. The IPX7 figure that appears comes from shops, not from the manufacturer, and the charging case is the only documented way to charge the toy.

If you've had problems with a C-shape slipping out, Sync O is the model built for exactly that. If you want the smallest and easiest to take travelling, and you're used to controlling things from your phone, Sync Go is a good fit. If you want a remote with the most features and can live with the manufacturer not stating water resistance, Chorus Pro is the model. Sync Lite is the cheapest way into the format, but 45 minutes of run time and the advice to keep it out of water mean it's best for anyone who wants to try out the concept.

We-Vibe Nova 2 is a rabbitvibrator built around one problem: the clitoral arm losing contact when you move. The outer arm is flexible and the inner one is adjustable. Two motors are controlled separately via a toggle button, and the product has ten vibration patterns on the buttons and twelve in the app. It measures 217 × 85 × 39 millimetres, is IPX7 and has up to 120 minutes of run time on 90 minutes of charging. We-Vibe Rave 2 is a G-spot vibrator without a clitoral arm. It also has two motors that can be controlled independently of each other, and the body is bendable so the angle can be adjusted. It's IPX7, has 120 minutes of run time and 90 minutes of charging time. The manufacturer publishes neither weight, battery capacity, noise level nor the number of vibration modes, and if you want clitoral stimulation at the same time, Nova 2 is the one to go for within the same brand.

We-Vibe Wand 2 is a cordless wand vibrator measuring 270 millimetres, with silicone over the whole body, ten intensity levels and the twelve patterns in the app. The neck is flexible, which puts a ceiling on how hard the head presses against the body, and the product is IPX7 with a travel lock. The weakness is the battery: 120 minutes of run time and 150 minutes of charging time, which is short for a wand of this size. The manufacturer states that it isn't designed for anal use.

We-Vibe Tango X is a 99.8 × 22.9 × 24.3 millimetre bullet vibrator with eight intensity levels and seven vibration patterns, controlled with three buttons. It's IPX7, has up to 120 minutes of run time on 90 minutes of charging and a travel lock that's activated by holding plus and minus for two seconds. The tip against the body is hard ABS plastic and the handle silicone. It suits anyone who wants a mini vibrator for targeted stimulation without a phone.

We-Vibe Touch X has the same published electronics as the Tango X – eight levels, seven modes, IPX7 and up to two hours of use – but in a wider lay-on shape with a tapered waist, made to rest against the body or between two partners. The choice between them is about shape, not performance.

We-Vibe Temp is We-Vibe's only model with both heating and cooling: a temperature plate that according to the manufacturer goes from 20 to 38 degrees, controlled with its own button independently of the vibration. It has three intensities and three patterns and is IPX7. The manufacturer's product page gives 120 minutes of run time and the manual 60 minutes, and no dimensions are published. The Melt models use what We-Vibe calls Pleasure Air – pressure waves in a chamber placed over the clitoris, instead of vibration. What sets them apart from most other clitoral stimulators is the shape: both are made to fit between two bodies during sex. We-Vibe Melt 2 has twelve intensity levels and six suction patterns that are controlled separately, silicone over the whole body, IPX7 and app control. Smart Silence means it only starts on skin contact, and the travel lock is activated in two seconds. It's 138.3 millimetres long and has up to 120 minutes of run time. The charging time is given as 90 minutes in the specifications but 150 minutes in the manufacturer's feature graphic.

The original We-Vibe Melt is just 10 millimetres thick, has twelve intensity levels, IPX7, a 420 mAh battery and up to two hours of use. It lacks the separate suction patterns and Smart Silence, and it was listed as sold out in We-Vibe's own shop when we checked – the model is being phased out.

We-Vibe Vector+ is an app-controlled prostate massager with two motors, an adjustable insertable arm and a remote in the box. The button steps through ten named vibration modes, and separate control of the two motors requires the app. The run time is up to 120 minutes. The manufacturer publishes neither dimensions, weight, material nor an IP rating for the model. We-Vibe Verge is a vibrating cock ring that directs the vibration towards the wearer's perineum and has ten named modes. The model is discontinued, and the manufacturer's product page now leads to its successor, the Verge 2. We-Vibe states that cock rings should be used for no more than 30 minutes at a time with a 60-minute break in between. The first mistake is using silicone-based lube. We-Vibe explicitly advises against it, as well as against scented and alcohol-based lubes and massage oils, because the silicone surface breaks down and becomes porous. The second is assuming that everything from the same brand can take water. Most We-Vibe models are IPX7, but the Sync Lite shouldn't be submerged according to the manual, the Chorus Pro and Vector+ have no published IP rating, and the remote for the Sync O isn't waterproof. The third is losing the charging cable. The magnetic cable can't be replaced with a standard USB cable, and it's excluded from the warranty. The fourth is thinking an app-controlled model is broken when it won't pair – the Sync O and Sync Lite can only be connected to one remote or one app at a time.

For couples who want vibration during sex, the Sync O is the safest first choice thanks to its shape and run time, and the Chorus Pro is the alternative for anyone who wants a remote with the most features. For solo use, the Nova 2 is the most complete model if you want stimulation both inside and out, and the Rave 2 if you just want the G-spot. The Wand 2 suits anyone who wants an all-silicone wand vibrator with an app, and the Tango X anyone who wants something small and simple without a phone.

If you want air pulse but also to be able to use it during sex, the Melt 2 is We-Vibe's answer. And if it's heat and cold you're curious about, there's only the Temp.
